INEC Receives 110 Applications for New Political Party Registration

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has revealed that it has received 110 letters of intent from associations seeking registration as political parties in Nigeria. INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, disclosed this at the commission's second regular quarterly consultative meeting with media executives in Abuja on Wednesday.

He stated that the Commission is diligently processing the requests in line with its regulations and guidelines. According to Prof. Yakubu, the commission will treat all requests fairly, irrespective of the status of their promoters. The list of the 110 associations seeking registration, including their proposed names, acronyms, addresses, and names of protem chairmen and secretaries, will be uploaded to INEC's website and social media platforms for transparency and public information.

In other developments, INEC has urged media personnel to promptly apply for accreditation for the Anambra State Governorship election, scheduled for November 8, 2025. The commission also announced the resumption of nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) and the conduct of outstanding bye-elections, with details to be made public soon.

The Area Council election in the Federal Capital Territory is also on the horizon, with primaries set to end on June 30, 2025. INEC reassured Nigerians of its commitment to fairness and transparency in all electoral activities.
